These Days of Ours by Juliet Ashton

These Days of OursThese Days of Ours by Juliet Ashton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kate and Becca are cousins and best friends. They have grown up together and shared all the most important milestones in their lives: childhood birthday parties, eighteenth birthdays, and now a wedding day as they each marry their childhood sweethearts, Charlie and Julian.

Kate has always loved Charlie - they were meant to be. Then she discovers that life never turns out quite how you expect it to. And love doesn't always follow the journey it should. But best friends are forever, and true love will find a way, won't it…?

Slow burning emotional novel about Kate and Charles' true love that spans decades, tragedies, desires, fears and the constant distractions of everyday life. Kate and Charles go separate ways living and marrying other people but always remembering their love for each other that started when they were five and Charlie tells Kate that he loves her. They should always have been together but it was never meant to be.

Presented through snippets of Kates' life (weddings, parties, birthdays and a book launch) over 20 years we get to glimpse key moments in their lives. Somehow you are transported into their lives, not a spectator as such you actually feel as if you are there with them. It's gentle, funny, poignant, soulful and leaves you with a lovely fuzzy feeling - these two were not just lovers they are soul mates with such a strong bond that even when they are apart they are never without each other. Just a lovely read, beautifully crafted and timeless. Well deserved 4 stars
