The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett

The Versions of UsThe Versions of Us by Laura Barnett
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What if you had said yes . . . ?

Eva and Jim are nineteen, and students at Cambridge, when their paths first cross in 1958. Jim is walking along a lane when a woman approaching him on a bicycle swerves to avoid a dog. What happens next will determine the rest of their lives. We follow three different versions of their future - together, and apart - as their love story takes on different incarnations and twists and turns to the conclusion in the present day.

The Versions of Us is an outstanding debut novel about the choices we make and the different paths that our lives might follow. What if one small decision could change the rest of your life?

This was hard to keep going not because the story was no good but because it spanned several years and had three separate story lines of two characters and it continually jumped between those three which made it disjointed and difficult to follow. It tells the story of Eva a writer and Jim a painter, their lives as individuals and as a couple and how decisions they make/made determine their fate.

It was well written but a bit slow and as I said a little confusing, I struggled to stay with this one which was a pity as it deserves to be read to the end but it lacks pace. Unfortunately I can only give it 3 stars

I would like to thank the publisher for sending this in exchange for an honest review.
